NPC is developing a microbial fluorescence imaging measurement device called "Bactester." The Bactester is a device that enables all businesses involved in food to measure and manage the total bacterial count in-house as part of HACCP management. Its principle involves using cell staining reagents for live and dead bacteria to visualize only the bacteria, automatically counting them in just five minutes (displayed on a connected computer screen). Unlike indirect measurements such as ATP testing, it allows for precise microbial management based on accurate bacterial counts that are not affected by residues or other proteins.

The Bactester developed by NPC is a compact device that performs rapid measurement of the total bacterial count, which is a fundamental indicator of hygiene management. Its measurement principle is based on the "Rapid Method for Measuring Bacterial Count by Fluorescent Staining" as specified in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, utilizing a patented technology that images and directly measures bacteria excited by a cell staining reagent. It can be used not only for food but also for checking the hygiene status in environmental aspects, such as "water," where culture testing is difficult, airborne bacteria, and swab tests.
