The stud welding method uses a direct current welding power source and a stud gun. It employs an arc as the heat source to sufficiently melt the stud and base material for joining, resulting in excellent reliability of joint strength. Additionally, in stud welding, welding metal is protected from oxygen and nitrogen in the air, and a welding auxiliary material called a ceramic ferrule (arc shield) is used to contain the welding metal for the purpose of forming a collar (excess weld).
Applications/Examples of results
Headed studs are mainly used for the integration of concrete slabs and steel beams. Two welding methods are employed: one is to weld directly onto the flange of the steel beam, and the other is to weld through the deck plate onto the flange of the steel beam.
