Cobalt alloy material with almost no Ni content, high ductility, high machinability, high strength, high corrosion resistance, and high wear resistance.
COBARION is a cobalt-based alloy developed by Professor Akihiko Chiba at Tohoku University’s Institute for Materials Research and manufactured by Aiwa Co., Ltd. It features a unique technology that suppresses nickel, which can cause metal allergies, achieving excellent strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. This COBARION material has high added value, being less likely to cause allergies and gentle on the human body. It is suitable for artificial joints in the orthopedic field (such as hip joints, knee joints, elbow joints) and dental applications like orthodontic wires and denture bases. COBARION is alloyed using a vacuum melting method and is supplied to the market as round bars after undergoing various heat treatment processes. 【Features】 - Cobalt-chromium alloy with almost no nickel content - High ductility and excellent machinability - High mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance - Alloyed using a vacuum melting method - Supplied to the market as round bars For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

basic information
**Features** ○ Nickel-free, reducing the risk of metal allergies → Adopted as a material by jewelry manufacturers ○ Collaboration with medical device manufacturers → Developed dental disk materials [COBARION-LC] ○ Complies with medical device material standards: JIS T7402-2 (US standard ASTM F1537) [COBARION-101] ○ Significant corrosion and wear damage from fluorine gas and hydrofluoric acid Compatible with fluororesin molding ○ High corrosion resistance achieved through an inert film derived from trace additive element X ○ Adhesion characteristic unique to Ni-based alloys is suppressed, achieving approximately 1.4 times the hardness and wear resistance ○ Particularly, the wear amount in the compression to measuring section flight is reduced by half [COBARION-TSE] ○ An alloy developed for thermal spring materials ○ By finely dispersing and precipitating the γ′ (gamma prime) phase within the structure and introducing high-density dislocations into the matrix, the strength at high temperatures is increased, significantly improving creep resistance at temperatures exceeding 600°C ○ Exhibits excellent mechanical properties in the temperature range from room temperature to 700°C, making it usable for applications beyond heat-resistant springs ● For more details, please contact us or download the catalog.

Aiwa Co., Ltd. Metal Division was established through a collaboration project between the Iwate Prefecture and the Tohoku University Institute of Metal Materials. It serves as a manufacturing base for the cobalt alloy "COBARION," originating from the "Iron Town" of Kamaishi. Utilizing the technical know-how gained from the development and practical application of "COBARION," we engage in the development and manufacturing of various special alloys. From material selection to melting, forging, rolling, and machining, you can rely on Aiwa Metal Division as your one-stop shop for alloy materials. We handle everything from the production of ingots using 30kg and 100kg vacuum melting furnaces to hot plastic processing with a 600t hydraulic press and rolling mill, accommodating small-scale prototypes and development that are difficult for major special alloy manufacturers to manage. We also have a track record of joint development of functional metal materials such as special steels, magnetic materials, resistive materials, and spring materials, which are hard to obtain in the market, as well as original alloys customized for our customers. We are confident that we can be of assistance as a material developer and supplier.
