This is a 60° gloss meter used to measure the glossiness of surfaces such as coatings, inks, plastics, stones, paper, tiles, and enamels. Generally, the gloss of painted surfaces is quantitatively evaluated using the 60° mirror gloss measurement. JIS-K5600 states that the 60° angle is applicable to all coatings. Gloss defects can occur due to various factors such as insufficient pigment dispersion, excessive or insufficient film thickness, and drying conditions. Instead of indicating and managing the finish state of the painted surface with subjective expressions like glossy, semi-gloss, or matte, a gloss meter is used to quantitatively manage the degree of gloss. It is used in a wide range of fields, including not only painting but also printed materials, flooring, stone, leather, and plastics. Note that this measurement method is not suitable for measuring the gloss of metallic paints. Before measurement, calibration work will be performed. Turn on the gloss meter and measure the included calibration standard tile (black). Adjust the ADJ scale to match the value of the calibration standard tile (black). After that, measure the other calibration standard tile (white). Confirm that the value of the calibration standard tile (white) is within ±1.2 GU. (This calibration work does not need to be done every time, but should be performed regularly.) After completing the calibration work, place the gloss meter on the actual paint film and perform the measurement.
