Conventional hardness testers require the reference surface to be on the anvil side, meaning that the sample must be parallel for testing to be conducted. The AT series employs a unique clamping mechanism (patented) that places the reference surface on the indenter side, allowing tests to be performed regardless of the shape or size of the sample.
