In 2012, we developed a submerged box guiding system for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project, utilizing ultrasonic positioning devices in the construction tunnel. This system allows for the accurate guidance of submerged structures such as caissons at great water depths, even underwater. For the first time in the world, measurements were conducted wirelessly, making installation easy. For subsequent boxes, GPS is no longer necessary, and by using an underwater disconnection device, the burden on divers is minimized. Additionally, measurements are only taken at the joint surfaces and the position of the measuring instruments, freeing them from the pressure of measurement. The accuracy is within 5 cm at a depth of 10 m. As a result, our company can provide technology from the GPS and inclinometer-based submerged box positioning system (simple guiding system) to the final stage of hydraulic jointing. We can install structures with an accuracy of within 10 cm at depths of up to 500 m, and this system can also be used for tunnels such as the Second Seikan Tunnel and the tunnel from Pukje Island to Jeju Island. Our submerged structure installation system is suitable for any type of structure at great water depths. This is a large-scale underwater guiding system for structures.
