**What is a Lightning Rod?** It refers to the lightning reception part installed on the upper parts of tall buildings, temples, shrines, gas plants, etc. A lightning rod alone does not constitute lightning protection; it is part of a system that includes the entire building's lightning reception components (such as the rod and lightning rod), horizontal conductors, mesh conductors, and their combinations. This is referred to as a "lightning protection system." When designing a lightning protection system, methods such as the protection angle method, rolling sphere method, and mesh method can be used individually or in combination. **Structure of External Lightning Protection System** A lightning rod is a pointed, rod-shaped conductor installed at the top of the building that needs protection. It is connected to the ground via copper wire from the main body of the lightning rod, with a safety device installed and connected to buried copper plates or similar in the ground.
