This is a tipping bucket rain gauge with a 200 mm inlet that has changed its body shape from the conventional cylindrical type to an hourglass-shaped cover, housing an inner container. The sensing part consists of a triangular bucket that tips over with a weight of 0.5 mm (standard) of precipitation, and a magnet attached to this tipping bucket closes a reed switch momentarily each time it tips, converting the rainfall into a pulsed contact signal for observation. There are two types available, one with and one without certification from the Japan Meteorological Agency.
