Under the Fire Service Act and municipal ordinances, the installation of fire alarms and similar devices is mandatory in all residences.
The number of fatalities from residential fires in single-family homes, apartments, and condominiums accounts for about 90% of the total fatalities from building fires. Nearly 60% of these victims are elderly individuals aged 65 and older. As society continues to age, there is a concern that the number of deaths from residential fires may increase. In this situation, the installation of residential fire alarms, which can quickly alert residents to the occurrence of a fire, has been made mandatory.
