This is a fishway with a 180-degree opening that allows for upstream passage from both sides, featuring a highly effective design for fish migration. It is a unique slit-type fishway with pools made of cobblestones, allowing fish to choose their own paths for upstream migration in various flow conditions. Additionally, due to its distinctive 20 cm pool shape, it requires no maintenance, and investigations after flood events have shown no sediment accumulation, while the functionality of the fishway is confirmed to be well maintained. We have developed fishway blocks with a depth of 1 m, a width of 1.5 m, and a thickness of 20 cm to 35 cm, which are available for use. In the case of on-site construction, there are issues with not being able to sufficiently secure the cobblestones during compaction, and the quality of the fishway can vary depending on the contractor. By producing fishway blocks as secondary products, the quality of the fishway after construction can be adequately ensured, and the construction period can also be shortened. These have been adopted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, various prefectures, and municipalities, with numerous construction achievements.
