The permeator is a calibration gas preparation device that generates gas from permeation tubes and diffusion tubes. By maintaining the permeation tubes and diffusion tubes at a constant temperature, the amount of permeation diffusion and evaporation diffusion becomes constant. Therefore, by keeping both tubes at a constant temperature and supplying a constant flow of dilution gas such as air or nitrogen, calibration gas with trace concentrations is continuously generated. This preparation method is highly reliable for determining gas concentration based on the fundamental physical quantities measured by the weight method, which includes the permeation rate (from the permeation tube), diffusion rate (from the diffusion tube), and the amount of dilution gas.

When the target gas is drawn into the detection tube using a gas sampler, the reagent inside the detection tube changes color due to a chemical reaction. The concentration of the target gas can be read from the scale at the tip of the discoloration layer.
