Since it specializes in surface analysis (mapping) at the scale of thin sections from a few millimeters, it is more suitable for analysis at a slightly macro scale, comparable to that of a polarizing microscope, rather than EPMA. It is also possible to calculate the average chemical composition of the analyzed surface areas in a semi-quantitative manner.

This is an observation and analysis using an electron microscope equipped with a wavelength dispersive X-ray spectrometer (WDS or WDX). It allows for the observation of microstructural areas on the order of micrometers. Additionally, it enables surface analysis to analyze the distribution of elements in the observation area and precise quantitative chemical analysis through point analysis.

We are currently conducting trial operations using a simple quantitative method developed independently by our company. Although it includes an error of ± a few wt% due to prioritizing convenience over precision, it allows for a significantly faster and more cost-effective response compared to the internal standard method, as it does not require a calibration curve or any special treatment of the sample.

This is a quantitative analysis method that utilizes the fact that the intensity of the diffraction lines obtained from X-ray diffraction analysis depends on the mineral content. By creating a calibration curve from samples with known content and adding an internal standard material, it is possible to quantify without considering the influence of the mass absorption coefficient (a coefficient that represents the degree to which the sample itself absorbs X-rays). However, quantitative analysis cannot be performed on samples where the diffraction lines overlap with those of coexisting minerals or where it is difficult to obtain pure standard materials for creating the calibration curve.

Under a standard polarized light microscope, it is difficult to identify ore minerals because they are opaque (or have low transparency and are translucent). In reflected light microscopy, by performing mirror polishing with diamond paste, the reflectance and color tone of opaque ore minerals can be observed, and identification is carried out based on that information. If the sample quantity is sufficient, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) can also be conducted, allowing for a comprehensive assessment.

Using liquid nitrogen to cool the sample in the heating-cooling stage, the liquid phase of the two-phase fluid inclusion is converted to a solid phase, and the temperature at which the solid phase returns to the liquid phase is measured as the melting point of ice. From this melting point, the salt concentration of the hot water is estimated, allowing not only for an understanding of the properties of the hot water but also for the estimation of its origin.

In our X-ray diffraction analysis, we identify the minerals contained in powdered samples by irradiating them with X-rays. Additionally, by conducting oriented analysis where fine particles are separated and applied to a slide glass, we can perform a detailed examination of the clay minerals present in the samples. We also accommodate various geological indoor analyses, such as polarized light microscopy observation of rock thin sections and fluid inclusion analysis (homogenization temperature, melting point of ice (salt concentration)).

By using a polarizing microscope for tissue observation and mineral identification, we will describe the classification of rock types and the state of alteration. We will attach one photo each of open polarizer and cross polarizer observations. We have extensive experience in civil engineering projects related to tunnels and slopes, as well as in landslide and geothermal-related work.

Heat the fluid inclusions containing gas-liquid two-phase in minerals such as quartz and hard gypsum separated from the sample using a dedicated heating and cooling stage, and measure the temperature at which they homogenize into a single gas phase. From this measurement result, the current temperature of the hot water is estimated. In the case of geothermal power generation, a comprehensive judgment is made by comparing it with temperature logging results.
