Currently, lignin is attracting attention as a powerful biomaterial, but it was previously used only for limited applications. Bolegard is a company that has consistently produced lignin since its early days. One of the applications that supported this early period was lead-acid batteries. Lead-acid batteries were invented in 1859 by the Frenchman Gaston Planté. The current basic structure consists of lead dioxide as the positive electrode, sponge lead as the negative electrode, and dilute sulfuric acid as the electrolyte. Until the first few decades of the 20th century, the containers for battery cells were made of wood. However, with improvements that changed the containers to plastic, a problem arose where the cycle life became shorter. Upon investigating the cause, it was found that lignin was what supported the cycle life of lead-acid batteries. It was discovered that the polymer structure of lignin has excellent functions in inhibiting or dispersing the crystallization of inorganic compounds due to steric hindrance. Subsequently, Bolegard followed a business path of developing lignin-based dispersants suitable for various applications. We are introducing various new applications for lignin. Please take a look at our special page.

Pionera biopolymer helps in the degradation and dispersion of biofilms. Laboratory work was conducted using Staphylococcus simulans strains isolated from a meat processing plant after cleaning. Bacterial cultures were grown overnight at 30°C in tryptone soy broth (TSB). Adhesion to steel was measured by both surface coverage (microscopic examination) and colony-forming units, with colony-forming units determined by removing bacteria from coupons using ultrasonic treatment and plate spreading. [Points] - Rinsing operations using Pionera biopolymer significantly reduced bacterial films on steel coupons. - Delayed bacterial colonization. - REACH exempt and environmentally friendly. ★Samples of 200-300g are currently available★ Please feel free to contact us for more details.

Pionera dispersants demonstrate superior performance in dispersing many common contaminants (rust, clay, soot, oil, etc.) in cooling circuits compared to polyacrylate. Dispersion improves cleaning by keeping particles suspended in water and preventing re-adhesion to surfaces. In the laboratory, a diluted dispersion of ferric oxide (0.1g in 50ml) and kaolin (1g in 50ml) was prepared with dispersant concentrations of 0.01% to 0.03% (weight of dispersant per weight of solid particles), using a reference polyacrylate (PA) with a molecular weight of 5000 Da. [Key Points] ■ Excellent dispersion performance of Pionera biopolymer compared to petroleum-based polyacrylate ■ Proven to be a bio-based sustainable alternative in water treatment formulations ★Samples of 200-300g are currently available★ Please feel free to contact us for more details.

In the dynamic flow tests conducted within the company, the dispersion capability of Pionera biopolymer has been demonstrated to be equivalent to that of petrochemical-based dispersants and superior to standard lignosulfonates. The calcium carbonate scale dynamic flow test measured the weight of calcium carbonate scale deposited on a glass surface, using a saturation solubility of 100 times, a polymer inhibitor at 50 ppm, and a scale time of 2 hours. The gypsum scale dynamic flow test utilized a calcium sulfate saturation solubility of 1.2x, a polymer inhibitor at 10 ppm, a scale time of 8 hours, and a temperature gradient using copper pipes, with the scale amount evaluated both by weight and optically. [Key Points] ■ Similar scale growth on the surfaces of biopolymers and petrochemical-based polyacrylates ■ Proven to be a sustainable alternative based on bio-resources ■ Superior to other bio-based options ★Samples of 200-300g are currently available★ Please feel free to contact us for more details.

Our biopolymer has been specially developed for boiler water treatment. It prevents, suppresses, and disperses deposits in boiler tubes, injectors, feed lines, and economizers. It keeps suspended carbonate, iron oxide, and phosphate sludge formed from reactions between water hardness, chemical treatment, and corrosion products. The sludge does not adhere to metal surfaces, accumulates in the boiler water, and can be blown off, significantly minimizing the eventual formation of hard scale, which typically reduces heat transfer. 【Features】 ■ Prevents, suppresses, and disperses deposits such as those in economizers ■ Keeps carbonate, iron oxide, and phosphate sludge in suspension ■ Sludge: accumulates in boiler water and can be blown off ■ Also provides protection against oxygen corrosion ■ Has film-forming capability ★Currently offering samples of 200-300g★ Please feel free to contact us for more details.

A life cycle analysis (LCA) of using Marasperse AG and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in plant nutrition concluded that Marasperse AG is a more sustainable alternative. This study was conducted in 2019 by NORSUS, Norway's leading independent research institute for LCA and other environmental impact analyses. NORSUS concluded that by replacing EDTA with Borregaard's chelating biopolymer Marasperse AG and applying Zn and Mn to tangerines, CO2 emissions could be reduced by 90%. For example, if EDTA were replaced with Marasperse AG in an area the same size as farmland in Wisconsin, CO2 emissions would be reduced to an amount equivalent to the emissions from 33,000 cars per year or 153,000 flights between London and New York. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
