We have begun mass production of biodegradable plastics that can impart biodegradability to non-woven fabrics used for various applications, offering excellent cost performance. Biodegradable plastics are primarily used in agriculture and forestry, but the newly developed biodegradable non-woven fabric is suitable for a wider range of applications for the introduction of biodegradable plastics. The main raw material for the biodegradable plastic VS-90-2-A10 we developed is PBAT, based on a unique compound technology (patent 6763619) held by our group company VASU Networks, achieving stable high formation and reasonable costs. While biodegradable non-woven fabrics are already available in the market, many products primarily use PLA (polylactic acid) as the main raw material, which has posed a cost barrier to their introduction. VS-90-2-A10 was developed with the aim of lowering this barrier. In Japan, where biomass plastics hold a dominant market share, the VASU Group, which specializes in the development and manufacturing of biodegradable plastics, envisions expanding opportunities without limiting applications.
