Even for heavy gates, there are limits to the locks that can be used for long-term operation. 1. To prevent the heavy gate from moving due to wind or other influences, there is a bolt-type fixing device on the side of the gate post when unlocking. A padlock or similar can be used to secure it, allowing the gate to be opened. 2. To prevent unauthorized access, lock the bolt-type fixing device located on the inside of the opposite gate post. This makes it difficult to unlock from the outside. 3. The last person to exit at night or similar times should close the gate and lock it with the bolt-type fixing device on the outside of the gate post. The photo shows a typical padlock, but you can freely change it considering strength and security. With these three fixed devices and one padlock, locking can be adapted to the situation. As part of the national regional revitalization policy, the National Museum of Modern Art, Crafts Gallery in Tokyo was relocated to Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture (Hondanomori Park) and opened in October 2020. Ishikawa Prefecture is home to many traditional industries, and Kanazawa City has developed into an internationally popular tourist destination where visitors can experience a diverse culture. We have installed our large gate on a retaining wall constructed using the "cedar board formwork concrete method." "Cedar board formwork" refers to the technique of attaching cedar boards to the surface of the formwork to create a pattern of cedar wood grain on the concrete. While recent concrete pouring often utilizes plywood, it seems that cedar wood was commonly used in the past. However, once cedar wood is used, the grain gets filled in, making it unusable for a second time. This means that no two wood grain patterns are the same. Furthermore, this method requires delicate work during the pouring of concrete. Seeing the "commitment" of clients and other contractors on-site motivates us even more. Our two-tier gate (height 1.2m × effective opening width 6.0m) was completed in May 2020.

One gate is not operational due to the construction of the new Shinkansen station at JR Komatsu Station, but the three gates at the main entrance are opened and closed daily.

This time, we interviewed the deputy director about the usage of our large gate. It is opened and closed daily during the opening hours. The gate is used not only at the main entrance but also at the parking lot and for the shuttle vehicle gate. Additionally, Science Hills Komatsu received the BCS Award in 2015.
