大湊文吉商店 Company Profile
The craftsmanship related to wood and paper that has been cultivated by a tradition exceeding 100 years of establishment.
In the early Meiji period, the first generation of Bunki Ōminato began the wholesale production of "shibugami," paper coated with an extract from persimmon tannin, using washi (Japanese paper) produced in Kamo. Later, during the Showa era, the second generation Bunki started manufacturing and wholesaling decorative folding screens. In the 1970s, they developed and produced shoji screens with a blend of traditional Japanese and Western designs, in addition to purely Japanese-style furnishings. Since 2005, they have participated in the overseas brand "Hyakunen Monogatari" from Niigata Prefecture, successfully expanding into the global market. Our store aims to utilize the screen-making techniques cultivated over nearly a century in modern living spaces, reviving and popularizing them as excellent interior products that can be seen in everyday life. Additionally, in recent years, our superior processing techniques, which fully understand the characteristics of wood, have garnered support from customers seeking unique items. We have also been focusing on custom products, extending beyond just folding screens to include items like speakers and player cases.
