The number of IoT devices is expected to surge, and with the increasing congestion of licensed bands that handle communication for IoT devices and the significant rise in user traffic, research is advancing on technologies for LTE communication in unlicensed bands (LTE in unlicensed spectrum: LTE-U). In the United States, Qualcomm is leading the standardization of LTE-U within the mobile telecommunications standardization organization 3GPP, aiming for practical implementation around 2020. By using our technology, it is possible to realize these technologies five years ahead of schedule.
