Ube Materials Corporation is a manufacturer of specialty inorganic materials based in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Using limestone, which is abundantly produced in Mine City, as raw material, the company produces calcium-related products such as quicklime and hydrated lime, as well as extracting magnesium from seawater using quicklime as a raw material to manufacture products like magnesium hydroxide and magnesia clinker (refractory material). Additionally, as a unique business, the company has developed a healthcare division that directly serves consumers by selling lime as a dehumidifying agent, and now offers products such as toothpaste, bath cosmetics, and other cosmetics through co-ops, mass retailers, mail order, and online sales.
