It has already been trialed in over 10 municipalities, primarily in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, with some having officially adopted it. Dedicated devices equipped with sensors are installed on poles, such as streetlights, at a height of about 3 to 5 meters above the ground to measure the snow depth on the road.
