Free membership registrationStarting from February 1, 2021, we have commenced the operation of an RFID-specific "RFID Test Bed" aimed at the development and demonstration of basic and applied technologies related to the radio wave propagation characteristics of objects managed with UHF band RF tags. This test bed was established as part of a project supported by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) for the utilization of new technology development facilities, which was adopted on March 13, 2020. The RFID test bed features a large anechoic chamber (6.5m × 4.5m × H3.4m) and a dedicated wideband reader-writer along with transmitting and receiving antennas, making it one of the largest permanent RFID evaluation facilities in Japan. Large managed objects with UHF band 920MHz RF tags affixed can be brought into the chamber, allowing for the evaluation of radio wave propagation characteristics between the transmitting and receiving antennas and the RF tags. The performance of RF tags can significantly deteriorate depending on the conductivity, dielectric constant, shape, and other factors of the object to which they are affixed; however, precise evaluations can be conducted even for large managed objects in conditions close to the actual installation environment.
