Takaokaya's Philosophy The origins of traditional crafts in Kyoto, Japan's ancient capital, are said to date back to the Heian period (approximately 1200 years ago), beginning with the creation of clothing and daily necessities for those living in the imperial court. In Kyoto, many place names derived from these traditional crafts still remain, reflecting the active role of artisans and the cultivation of a craftsman culture. Furthermore, Kyoto's traditional crafts have played a significant role in the development of Japan's unique temple culture and the culture of tea ceremonies. This environment in Kyoto has nurtured people who live by handcrafting for 1200 years, as well as the pride of the people of Kyoto in their craftsmanship. Since its founding 90 years ago in Kyoto, "Takaoka" has been deeply involved in the lives of the people of Kyoto through handmade cushions. Now, as we enter the 21st century, the lifestyle of the Japanese is being reevaluated from a predominantly Western lifestyle to what truly constitutes a comfortable and sensibly rich lifestyle for us. In line with this trend, the "Rakuchu Takaokaya" brand aims to propose a "new harmony - modern harmony" style, in conjunction with Japan's and Kyoto's traditions and techniques.
