Working on the inheritance of carpentry skills

Due to concerns for the environment, the construction industry is facing the challenge of extending the lifespan of housing. In Japan, there are many wooden houses, and maintaining them effectively requires skilled craftsmen with advanced techniques. Maeda Corporation is strongly interested in the inheritance of traditional carpentry skills, which have few opportunities for teaching. Additionally, in the fiscal year 2009, a new course will be established at the Aichi Prefecture Construction Center for vocational training, aimed at experienced carpenters, to teach advanced techniques such as the Kiku method. Maeda Corporation also intends to take advantage of this opportunity to directly address the technical challenge of passing on carpentry skills.
