The electricity generated is direct current, with a maximum output of approximately 12V. Since it produces direct current, it can be used in various ways as a substitute for batteries. Turning the handle to the right makes the red clip of the alligator clip positive (+) and the black clip negative (−). Turning it in the opposite direction reverses the polarity.
