Skate park

Skate Park Seal Hard Specification The problem with skateboard plazas is that the concrete becomes worn out. When it deteriorates, the concrete becomes rough, leading to poor sliding and an increased risk of falls. The solution to this problem is construction that includes Seal Hard. Specifications: [Seal Hard FGS + SSP100] 1. Polishing with Seal Hard FGS to create a smooth floor 2. Using Aquapel Plus to make the concrete less susceptible to rain infiltration 3. Filling joints with SSP100 to upgrade to a comfortable floor without any steps

Skate Park Seal Hard - Skate Park Specification - Long-lasting Durability

A skate park highly praised by skaters with a concrete surface finish. The smooth concrete surface is perfect for skating and lasts long even outdoors!

◆Conventional Pavement Many skate parks are made with concrete surfaces, but they have not been finished to a particular standard until now. As a result, they remain vulnerable to erosion from rainwater and wear from skating. Even with maintenance, the concrete surface deteriorates due to rainwater erosion, becoming rough within just 2 to 3 years, making it increasingly difficult to skate on and posing a risk of injuries such as scrapes from falls. ◆Towards a Water-Resistant and Highly Abrasion-Resistant Pavement In response, Willby has developed a specification suitable for skate park surfaces called "Seal Hard Skate Park Specification," combining the concrete floor finishing technology it has cultivated over many years. Seal Hard is a concrete surface hardener with numerous achievements in flooring for logistics facilities since 1994. It dramatically improves the abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces and transforms them into surfaces that can withstand wear from vehicles like forklifts. However, Seal Hard is weak against rainwater, and on its own, it is not suitable for outdoor use. Therefore, a specification for skate parks was developed that combines the removal of the weak surface layer through "grinding" and a water absorption suppressor, "AquaPel Plus," to resist rainwater.

"20-Year-Old Skate Park Surface Renovation" Sanuki City Nagao Skate Park

A weathered concrete park that has been neglected for 20 years has been revived into a skate park that is even smoother than newly built parks.

The "Nagao Skate Park" in Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, was established 20 years ago. Built at a significant size of approximately 900m2, it became a well-known park for skaters in western Japan long before skateboarding became a trend. However, it has recently gained notoriety for its rough surface, with some people even referring to it as a "grater" due to the coarse concrete surface. Sanuki City allocated a budget and commissioned Tsumura Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Willby Co., Ltd., which provide unique renovation methods. Using a large American grinding machine, the rough concrete surface was shaved down, and the sunken areas were filled with a special resin made in the USA that can be used outdoors, creating a smooth surface. Additionally, a penetrating surface hardener called "Seal Hard" and a water absorption inhibitor named "Aqua Pel Plus" were applied to enhance wear resistance and rainwater resistance. Finally, a test run on a skateboard was conducted to check for proper grip. The surface not only returned to a smooth finish but was also completed with long-lasting wear and rain resistance! A video showing the condition after the renovation has been uploaded to YouTube. With the permission of the sk8 on channel, we will introduce it in the related video below.

Concrete surface hardening finish "Seal Hard Skate Park Specification"

Long-lasting slippery condition. Resistant to wear and rainwater. Proven track record in both new construction and renovations at famous skate parks.

The "Seal Hard Skate Park Specification" is a concrete surface reinforcement finish that is resistant to deterioration outdoors and maintains a smooth skating surface for a long time. Using a large grinding machine, the surface of the concrete pavement is smoothed, and with the penetrating surface hardener "Seal Hard" and the water absorption inhibitor "AquaPel Plus," a concrete surface that is resistant to wear and less prone to deterioration from rainwater is created. This method has been adopted not only for new constructions but also at the "Nagao Skate Park" in Sanuki City, Kagawa Prefecture, which was opened 20 years ago. The rough pavement surface has been transformed into a smooth surface, resulting in a durable pavement with wear resistance and rainwater resistance! After construction, it has been tested with skateboards to confirm the appropriate grip feel. 【Features】 - Utilizes the concrete surface hardener "Seal Hard," which has a proven track record in floor finishes for logistics facilities, significantly improving the wear resistance of the concrete surface. - A skate park-specific specification that combines "grinding" to remove weak surface layers in advance and the water absorption inhibitor "AquaPel Plus" to resist rainwater. *For more details, please download the materials or feel free to contact us.

"No matter how many times it's repaired, it quickly falls apart." Tōganezawa Sports Square Skate Park

The park, which used to become worn out quickly even after being repaired every 2 to 3 years, has transformed into a smooth surface and is receiving great acclaim!

The "Higashi Kanazawa Sports Plaza Skate Park" located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, was installed in a retention basin. Although it should have undergone surface repairs every 2 to 3 years, the deterioration of the surface was severe, and falling would inevitably lead to bleeding. Being in a retention basin, it was also prone to accumulating rainwater, creating an environment that is particularly damaging to concrete. With the cooperation of the Kanazawa City Skateboard Association, the city allocated a budget for surface renovation. Using a large American grinding machine, we ground down the rough concrete surface, filled in the depressions with a special resin made in the USA that can be used outdoors, and created a smooth surface. Additionally, we improved wear resistance and rainwater resistance by applying a penetrating surface hardener called "Seal Hard" and a water absorption suppressor called "Aqua Pel Plus." Finally, we tested the surface with a skateboard to ensure it had the appropriate grip. Not only did it return to a smooth surface, but it was also finished to be a long-lasting surface with wear and rainwater resistance! Local skaters expressed their delight, saying, "I've been skateboarding for 15 years, but this is the first time I've experienced such a surface." Even two years after the construction, the smooth surface continues to be maintained.

NIX Street Sports Park, a park that produces Olympic athletes.

The park, which had deteriorated after 8 years since its establishment, has been reborn with a long-lasting surface.

NIX Street Sports Park" located in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture is a well-known park that was established as a large-scale facility in the Hokuriku region and has produced bronze medalists for the Tokyo Olympics. However, starting from its third year, the surface began to deteriorate significantly, and by the eighth year, the poor condition of the surface, which was comparable to asphalt, led to a reputation of "a well-designed park but with the worst surface." During the renovation work, a large American grinding machine was used to grind down the rough concrete surface, and the sunken areas were filled with a special resin from the U.S. that can be used outdoors, creating a smooth surface. Additionally, a penetrating surface hardener called "Seal Hard" and a water absorption inhibitor named "Aqua Pel Plus" were applied to enhance wear resistance and rainwater resistance. Not only did the surface become smooth again, but it was also finished to be a long-lasting surface with wear and rainwater resistance! Since Hokuriku is particularly known for its high precipitation, such specifications are essential for concrete parks. After the construction, local skater and Paris Olympic participant Kana Nakayama announced on Instagram, "It has really become easier to skate!

Section repairs + pavement repairs! Sasebo Park Skate Park

In just one year since its opening... the skate park has transformed into a facility better than when it first opened, thanks to section repairs and surface renovations.

The "Sasebo Park Skate Park" in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, was opened a year ago. "Is it already in need of repairs after just one year??" I think many people feel this way. The park's sections and concrete surfaces deteriorate faster than expected if they lack durability. At this time, we are repairing the sections (by Tsutomu Manufacturing) at the Sasebo Park Skate Park, while also using a large American grinding machine to smooth out the rough concrete surface, creating a flat surface. Additionally, we applied a permeable surface hardener "Seal Hard" and a water absorption inhibitor "Aqua Pel Plus" to improve wear resistance and rainwater resistance. Finally, we tested it with skateboards to confirm whether the grip feels appropriate. After the renovations, local skaters expressed their surprise, saying, "I thought the surface itself was fine, but after skating on the renovated surface, I was amazed at how much better it felt than I expected!" "Why is a new park already in such bad shape?" This is the most common question I hear from various park managers. We need to seriously consider "the aging of parks" before such situations arise!

"Skate park surface finishing in the adjustment pond" Toyo Carbon Urban Sports Park

The newly constructed concrete surface of the adjustment pond has been finished with a long-lasting concrete surface that is resistant to "wear" and "rainwater."

In Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, we carried out construction to renovate a retention basin into an urban sports park. We have actually interviewed skaters about their experience with the existing park. They expressed many concerns such as: "It's rough and hard to skate," "The floor is gritty, causing excessive tire wear," "Nearby residents say it's too noisy," and "I'm afraid of getting injured when I fall." The solution to these issues was the "Seal Hard Skate Park Specification." - We ground and polished the floor to create a smooth surface. - We reinforced the surface with Seal Hard to improve wear resistance and enhance the quality of the concrete. The main factor causing damage to the concrete surface is "rainwater." If the park within the retention basin does not have a rainwater-resistant surface, it will deteriorate in just a few years. The solution to this problem was the "Aqua Pel Plus - Water Absorption Suppressor," which prevents acidic rain and other elements from penetrating the concrete, thereby extending its lifespan. During the opening ceremony, seeing skaters glide with smiles, exclaiming, "I've never skated on such a smooth floor before!" made me realize that this specification is optimal for the skate park.

Concrete surface finish for the "skate park" [with pavement specification].

The future skate park must be "durable." Let's take a look at what happens if we just "pour and finish"!

We would like to introduce the importance of the concrete surface finish "Skate Park Specification" that our company is currently constructing, along with some examples. Do you have any concerns about the concrete surface at your skate park? - The concrete is deteriorating, and before you know it, the surface has become rough in just a few years. - It is difficult to secure a budget for repairs, and it is being used in its damaged state. - There is a risk of injury due to the poor surface condition. - It is not possible to create a safe and smooth skate park. Many of the above issues are caused by simply pouring concrete without further treatment. Our company aims to solve these challenges and create parks where "the surface lasts longer" and "users can skate safely." In setting up the park, we have created a "Construction Case Collection" and a "Surface Specification Document" for the Skate Park Specification, so that those involved can gain a better understanding of skate parks. We can carry out construction for both "new installations" and "renovations." Our staff includes skaters who aspire to be professionals. Currently, we feel that this specification is suitable for skateboard plazas. *For more details, please download the materials or feel free to contact us.

Based on numerous achievements, we have created the "Skate Park Surface Specification Standard Diagram"!

What is the design of a skate park...? If you have such concerns, please make use of this.

Many skate parks are made with concrete surfaces, but they have not been finished in any particular way until now. As a result, they remain vulnerable to erosion from rainwater and wear from skating. Even with proper maintenance, the concrete surface deteriorates and becomes rough due to rainwater erosion in just 2 to 3 years, gradually making it difficult to skate and transforming it into a dangerous surface that is prone to injuries such as scrapes from falls. We have consolidated the know-how from our previous sports facility projects and concrete flooring projects to create the optimal "Skate Surface Specification Standard Diagram" for skate parks. Please make use of it in your future skate park designs! *The surface specification document can be found by scrolling down to the "CAD List." If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us. We are confident that we can be of assistance.

"Professional riders are amazed by the smooth surface!" Ishioaka Skateboard Park

Important from the start! We have finished the new concrete pavement with a long-lasting surface that is resistant to "wear" and "rainwater."

A skateboard park completed at the east exit of JR Ishioka Station in Ibaraki Prefecture has undergone construction to create a long-lasting concrete surface! Skate park construction commissioned by local governments is often contracted to local civil engineering companies, which may not be accustomed to managing large concrete surface installations. Due to pouring concrete on a hot, sunny day in March, there were many rough areas on the surface, and we finished it to create a smooth surface suitable for skateboarding, including corrections for those rough spots. At the opening ceremony, there was a demonstration by professional riders, and it was a huge success with comments like, "It's super easy to skate on!" Many attendees mentioned they had never encountered such a surface before. We hope to introduce this surface to many users in future new and existing parks, while preventing the deterioration of the parks and ensuring the safety of users.

Dust from the pavement one month after opening: Sumida Skateboard Park

After just one month since its opening, the park became notorious for being "covered in dust." After renovations, there is no dust, and the surface is better than when it first opened!

Sumida Skateboard Park" located in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, is a long-awaited park for skaters that opened in April 2024. However, shortly after its opening, concrete dust began to emerge, leading to harsh criticism from skaters on social media, prompting inquiries from concerned officials in Sumida Ward. During the renovation work, we used six times the usual amount of seal hardener for new constructions, resulting in a smooth, dust-free surface. Not only did it restore the surface to a slick finish, but it also created a durable surface with wear resistance and rainwater resistance! After the work was completed, the officials praised us, saying, "The surface has changed dramatically! The finish of the skate park surface is truly important.

Are the safety measures at the skate park thorough?

The most concerning issue is "injuries." A savior for problem-solving that goes beyond just helmets!

Are the safety measures for setting up a skate park really thorough? One is "mandatory helmet use." This is certainly very important for protecting one's body. Another important aspect is "preventing the deterioration of the concrete surface." Currently, there is definitely a stronger awareness regarding "concrete reinforcement" in skate parks. A commonly used material is 'surface reinforcement agents.' In terms of actually reinforcing the concrete itself, they are effective. However, one common issue with all surface reinforcement agents is that they are vulnerable to rainwater! When exposed to rainwater, the effectiveness diminishes in a short period. What differentiates our company from others is that we use 'water absorption suppressants (Aqua-Pel Plus).' This achieves a high level of safety and a long-lasting surface. It is a surface that has received positive feedback nationwide, with many saying, "This surface is necessary for a skate park." *For more details, please download the materials or feel free to contact us.*

One way to reduce the cost of setting up a skate park is...

I will convey one proposal to resolve the issue of "cost" while actually installing within the budget!

Skate parks are often said to have a "concrete surface" as the basic standard, and the installation costs are high! This is because skateboarding, which is a sport involving wheel diameter, can lead to "serious injuries" if the condition of the concrete is poor, making it impossible to settle for a mediocre surface condition, which requires time and effort. However, there are ways to reduce costs! Our company has the know-how to transform even poorly conditioned concrete surfaces into smooth, long-lasting surfaces. Only Willbee can finish existing parks to a level that surpasses new constructions. Both "new installations" and "renovations" will be transformed into long-lasting surfaces with minimal injury risk.

"First! Skate Park in a Commercial Facility" AKAKEN PARK

A skate park inside a commercial facility!? Plenty of sections! The surface is smooth!

AKAKEN PARK," located in Nakanata Town, Kahoku District, Ishikawa Prefecture, is the long-awaited park in Ishikawa Prefecture that opened in January 2025. Originally, it was set up in the same location, but due to circumstances, it had to close in November 2024. Ishikawa Prefecture is particularly susceptible to weather conditions, and an indoor skate park is an important practice space for users. Amidst this, it was decided to renew and reopen in a separate vacant area with the cooperation of many users. Our employees also used the old AKAKEN PARK, so we thought we could help and proposed pavement renovations. During the renovation work, there were remnants of tile adhesive, but through repeated grinding and polishing, we were able to finish the surface to a quality even better than when it was newly constructed. The park features a variety of sections, making it enjoyable for everyone from small children to adults. At the opening, many users expressed their happiness, saying, "This surface is amazing!

Reusing the worn-out pool! Chausuyama Skate Park

Transforming 'abandoned places' back into 'gathering places'!

The Chausuyama Skate Park has been completed in Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture! The site of the former "Old Chausuyama Citizen Pool" has been redeveloped! We proposed various sections, and unfortunately, the "Seal Hard Skate Park specifications" were not adopted due to budget constraints, but a park that retains the essence of the original pool has been born! At the opening ceremony, many people, from children to adults, gathered and it was a great success, with comments like, "I was surprised that that pool became a skate park!" and "It's a fun park that can be enjoyed by beginners and advanced skaters alike!" I felt that redeveloping unused facilities into completely different types of facilities is a good way to utilize land, rather than leaving them as they are. As the number of unused facilities and closed schools increases, I hope to create more places that attract people again.

Surface deterioration is best addressed early! NIX Urban Sports Park

Deterioration began one year after the new installation, so renovations were made before significant deterioration progressed!

The "NIX Urban Sports Park" was established in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture in 2023. It is a park supervised by Kaede Nakayama, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. During the construction of the new facility, a permeable surface hardener from another company was used for the concrete surface finish. However, after one year, surface deterioration began, and it became rough. When we proposed the Seal Hard SKP specification to the design team at NiX JAPAN, they decided to take action before significant deterioration progressed, and we proceeded with the construction. Since the area from the entrance fence to the first joint was left unconstructed, it allows for comparison and observation between the constructed and unconstructed areas. Although only one year had passed since its opening, the surface has been finished to a quality exceeding that of the original construction!
