When I first started my own web development business after separating from the web production department of a printing company, I must admit that I was not truly providing value to my clients. The projects I took on were simply aimed at quickly generating revenue, with proposals and designs that were safe and unremarkable, just to get a "YES" from the clients. Gradually, the clients began to drift away from us... As clients left, I began to think... "What do clients really want?" Clients did not want a "website." What they truly sought was the effect of "increased sales" or "enhanced branding" using the tool of a website. Realizing this, our company's direction changed 180 degrees. I recognized that, even if it meant disregarding profitability and taking more time, engaging in discussions with clients would ultimately lead to their happiness and, in turn, our happiness.
