Generally, when we think of optical fibers, we recall optical communication, but optical fibers, represented by optical waveguides (the paths through which light travels), can also serve as sensors. Optical fiber sensors are gaining attention as next-generation measurement devices. To realize a safe and secure society, it is crucial to ensure that civil structures, which support the foundation of society, and production facilities that generate economic benefits, remain in a healthy state against challenges such as natural disasters like earthquakes and aging. Sensing technology can be likened to the sensory nerves of the human body. By leveraging the unique advantages of optical fibers, such as explosion resistance, durability, electromagnetic resistance, and heat resistance, we aim to realize a safe society as the sensory nerves of society; this is our goal. At times, safety and security are described as "once it has passed the throat...". However, in places that do not attract public attention, diligent operational management, safety management, and maintenance work are carried out day and night with significant manpower and time. Our collective goal and philosophy, "Sweat and High Tech," is to enhance and complement this precious and costly environment of "safety and security" with light.
