Asao Sakamoto: Bringing Tradition to the Modern World

Since our founding in 1900, we have consistently been involved in the refining and processing of lacquer. Today, we aim to create a new value called "attachment lifespan," which goes beyond mere cost performance, by utilizing that lacquer and various traditional techniques surrounding it in modern industrial products and building materials. In the early days of this work, a significant portion came from Western countries. This was a precursor to the current hollowing out of Japanese industry, as Western countries faced the same issue and sought to specialize in high-end products as a future direction for domestic industrial goods. This led to a movement to adopt lacquer, the mystery of the East, as a new added value to replace the gilding of metal products. Moving forward, our company will strive to be recognized not as "lacquer, an old material quietly continuing within tradition," but as "a new material that bestows the identity of being made in Japan upon wonderful industrial products born of modernity."
