[Case Studies by Issue] Measures Against "Wind Flapping" of Weed Control Sheets Due to Typhoons and Strong Winds
Are you having trouble with the edges of your weed control sheet curling up due to typhoons or strong winds?
Weed control sheets are widely used for measures against weeds along roadsides, slopes, and around facilities. However, during the typhoon season from September to October, we often hear about issues where strong winds cause "the edges of the sheet to catch the wind, causing the entire sheet to flap and tear or lift up." Particularly, the boundary areas (edges) between asphalt and structures are prone to becoming points where wind can enter, leading to "wind lifting." To prevent this wind lifting, there is a method where the sheet is laid down before asphalt paving, and the edges are directly covered and secured with asphalt. This method tightly secures the edges without gaps, blocking the entry of wind and preventing lifting or flapping even in strong winds typical of typhoons. In this method, weed control sheets made of polyester material are used. Polyester has a high melting point of about 260°C and excellent heat resistance, so there is no concern about melting or degradation during the application of high-temperature asphalt. This solution is ideal for sites that are "worried about the annual typhoons" or "especially concerned about strong winds."
