Explaining the difference between "4-sided box" and "column" used in timber materials.

Explanation of the 4-sided box, differences from columns, and compatibility.

In steel frame (S) construction, the column material is primarily large-diameter square steel pipes known as "columns." However, there is a size limit, with a maximum manufacturing size of 1000mm. For super high-rise buildings that require larger sizes, a "four-sided box," also known as a welded four-sided box or box column, is used. In Japan, column materials for construction structures predominantly use columns, whereas in Taiwan, four-sided boxes are more common. Like Japan, Taiwan experiences frequent earthquakes and requires high strength, but there are fewer column manufacturers, and there are steel manufacturers that produce thick plates, which likely leads to a greater use of four-sided boxes. *For more detailed information about columns, please refer to the PDF materials.*

Understanding compatibility is helpful! An explanation of steel pipe sizes and how to choose them.

There are three main sizes of steel pipes! Here’s how to choose steel pipes based on span and standard strength.

When selecting column materials for architectural structures, the first thing to know is the types of square steel pipes. They can be broadly classified into small diameter, medium diameter, and large diameter, with large diameter square steel pipes primarily used for construction purposes. Small diameter square steel pipes, referred to as "small square" or "small square pipes," are used for furniture, decorative materials, and machine parts. Each manufacturer shapes round pipes according to the JIS standard STKM (JIS G 3455) into square shapes and sells them under their own standards. Medium diameter square steel pipes are called "medium diameter square" or "medium diameter square pipes," and are labeled as "general structural square steel pipes." They are used for small-scale architectural structures, structural components of machines, multi-story parking lots, and temporary materials, primarily utilizing the JIS standard STKR (JIS G 3466). Large diameter square steel pipes are generally referred to as "large diameter square steel pipes" or "columns," and are labeled as "architectural structural square steel pipes." The Japan Iron and Steel Federation has product specifications such as BCR and BCP, which are used as column materials for medium to large-scale architectural structures. *For detailed information on columns, please refer to the PDF materials.*

Explaining the basics of construction columns (large-diameter square steel pipes)

Introducing the standards for architectural columns used as pillars in medium to large-scale buildings!

Large-sized square steel pipes used for construction are referred to as "columns." Since our company successfully mass-produced large-diameter square steel pipes in 1978, they have become the mainstream material for steel frame columns. They are used as columns in medium to large-scale buildings and are categorized into several types based on standards and manufacturing methods. General structural square steel pipes conforming to JIS standards, which are manufactured through roll forming, include STKR400 and STKR490. STKR is said to be an abbreviation for "S = Steel, T = tube, K = groove, R = Rectangular," with the numbers indicating the minimum tensile strength. *For more detailed information about columns, please refer to the PDF document.

Square steel pipes made of stainless steel for construction structures.

Square steel pipes made of architectural structural stainless steel that allow for a variety of surface finishes and can serve as finishing materials.

Stainless steel materials for construction structures were standardized as JIS in 2000 under "JIS G 4321," and in 2002, due to the revision of the Building Standards Act, they became usable as construction structural members just like ordinary steel (iron). The types of steel that can be used as construction structural members are three: SUS304A, SUS316A, and SUS304N2A. Additionally, there are H-shaped steel, equal angle steel, channel steel, round steel, circular steel pipes, and square steel pipes. The square steel pipes are manufactured through cold forming, so their type designation is "SUS304A-C." 【Features】 ■ Excellent corrosion resistance, contributing to increased building lifespan and simplified maintenance ■ Various surface finishes are possible, allowing them to serve as finishing materials ■ Minimal reduction in strength due to heat, while exhibiting high toughness at low temperatures ■ High plastic deformation capacity, rich in toughness, improving the seismic resistance of buildings *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Achieving high quality at low cost! Rational and highly economical column materials.

"N Column BCR/BCP" is a cold-formed rectangular steel pipe that achieves high quality at low cost, providing a rational and economical solution. It is strong against bending, twisting, and compression, allowing for sufficient strength with lightweight steel materials. Additionally, due to its high strength, it is possible to reduce the outer diameter of the column, thereby increasing the effective floor area. Because of its square cross-section, there is no need to brace reinforce the weak axis like in H-shaped columns. 【Features】 ■ Rational cross-sectional performance as a column material ■ High efficiency of floor area ■ No wall braces required ■ Easy and economical processing and finishing ■ Sophisticated shape *For more details, please refer to the catalog or feel free to contact us.

An overview of the sectional performance of square steel pipes used as structural members.

What is the cross-sectional performance of square steel pipes? We will also introduce the corner shapes related to the standards for cross-sectional performance.

The sectional performance of square steel pipes measures how much load, such as forces applied from above, the column can withstand, how much it can bend under bending forces, and how well it can endure impacts. It can be broadly divided into sectional area, sectional second moment, and sectional coefficient. Each of these values varies depending on the specifications and sizes of the column (large-diameter square steel pipe) and can be confirmed in product brochures. The sectional area is proportional to the strength of the column material. In the case of column materials, it is used in the calculation of the compressive stress of the column, and generally, the larger the area, the more it can withstand compressive forces applied from above. Additionally, we will introduce the relationship between sectional performance and specifications/manufacturing methods. *Detailed information about the column can be viewed in the PDF materials.

Thorough explanation of BCR and BCP

What are BCR and BCP? An explanation focusing on the differences between the two types of standards! We will also introduce the replacement with SHC.

BCP and BCP are both cold-formed square steel tubes used as column materials in steel structures. They have been standardized as column materials equivalent to SN materials by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation and are certified products by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. There are two types of standards, BCR and BCP, based on differences in manufacturing methods, and this explanation will focus on these differences. *For detailed content of the column, please refer to the PDF document.*

"Square steel pipes" are widely used in everything from furniture to large-scale buildings.

The uses are truly varied! Introducing the standards for square steel pipes, as well as manufacturing methods and how to choose them.

Square steel pipes are literally steel pipes with a square cross-section. The sizes of the cross-section vary widely; smaller ones are used as components for furniture, while larger ones are used as columns in large-scale buildings, making the applications of square steel pipes truly diverse. They can be classified into three categories based on size: small diameter, medium diameter, and large diameter. Smaller sizes are referred to as "pipes," while larger sizes, especially those used in construction, are called "columns." Our company specializes in the development and manufacturing of "columns" among square steel pipes. *For more details about columns, please refer to the PDF document.*
