A bridge expansion device is something that is installed in the gaps (expansion gaps) between the bridge abutment and the bridge girder, or between bridge girders. When designing a bridge, it is necessary to provide expansion gaps to prevent the bridge girders from colliding with the bridge abutments or with each other due to thermal expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes. To cover these gaps and ensure safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians, a bridge expansion device is required. The "N-FC Finger Joint" is a bridge expansion device that protects the water-stopping material, which is essential for non-drainage functionality, and prevents early deterioration of bridge girder ends in snowy and cold regions. By adding a fin cover to the underside of the face plate and narrowing the gaps of the comb teeth, the proportion of soil, snow, and ice that enters the gaps and reaches the water-stopping material can be reduced to below 15% even at the lowest temperatures (-20°C), thereby preventing the deterioration of the water-stopping material.
