Sankyu, a major plant maintenance company engaged in engineering, logistics, and operational support. Inspection work to identify defective areas in plant equipment primarily relies on visual inspections by personnel. While scaffolding is set up and inspections are conducted using aerial work platforms, the time and costs associated with these preparatory steps pose challenges. Additionally, defective areas in such equipment are often located in high, narrow, and dark places that are difficult for people to access, making the work challenging and dangerous. To address these issues, the company has introduced our inspection drone, 'IBIS.' It is utilized for inspections of production facilities in steel and petrochemical manufacturers, capturing images of equipment such as gas cleaning systems and exhaust ducts. [Case Study] Technology Exploration: Drone Technology Supporting the Missions of Rescue Teams and Emergency Services

We will introduce a case of exploring companies that can design drones that meet NIST requirements.

At the PSCR2020 conference, there was an explanation from NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) regarding the results of our technical survey conducted to explore UAS (drone) technology to support the activities of rescue teams and emergency responders. The purpose of this technology scouting project was to identify drone technologies that meet NIST's requirements. Our company conducted a search for companies capable of designing drones suitable for various applications and identified 41 candidate companies. These included drones for industrial applications, government-related uses (law enforcement, firefighting, safety protection), photography/filmmaking, and commercial delivery. This is a domestically produced drone specialized for logistics applications that complies with safety standards and uniformity standards based on aviation law. - It boasts a maximum takeoff weight of 24.0 kg and a maximum payload of 6.0 kg, making it capable of transporting a variety of goods such as delivery packages and medical supplies. The maximum flight time is 16 minutes (at maximum payload), and the maximum flight distance is 7.5 km (at maximum payload). - If operated by a person who has obtained aircraft certification and a remote pilot skill certificate, specific flights that require permission or approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism can be conducted without application by implementing access control measures. - These specific flights include: flying beyond visual line of sight, nighttime flying (within visual line of sight), flying over densely populated areas (DID), and flying within 30 meters of people or objects.
