[Case Study] Power Plant Elbow Piping Replacement Work

We would like to introduce an example of on-site piping replacement work that reduces management burdens!

We received an order for products for the replacement work of elbows with long seam welds, which we supplied several decades ago, for the after-service project at the Nagasaki Plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. for their thermal power plant. This project involved the on-site replacement of aging piping used under high temperature and high pressure conditions. However, instead of supplying the same elbows as before, we provided a new product that incorporates many advantages, which was well received. The specifications of the product that were appreciated are as follows: - Seamless elbows to eliminate long seam welds. - To reduce the workload within the engineering manufacturer, a hydraulic pressure test was conducted at Benkan Kiko at a pressure of 1.3 times the design pressure. - To facilitate easy replacement work on-site, lifting fixtures were installed. By conducting the hydraulic pressure test at 1.3 times the design pressure in advance at Benkan Kiko, we can avoid the risk of performing a hydraulic pressure test at 1.3 times the design pressure on aging piping. We have confirmed and experienced effects such as delivery management and workload reduction, and we have received high evaluations, including subsequent orders for after-service projects under the same scheme.

We will weld a plate to the HT elbow (PVC water pipe) to create a waterproof plate. Due to the characteristics of the material, we will strive to meet your requests regarding tolerances and distortions as closely as possible.

At Takimoto Giken Kogyo, we manufacture waterproof plates by welding plates onto HT elbows (PVC water pipes). While it is a heat-resistant grade, the plates themselves are of standard grade. Materials for the construction industry often require additional processing of PVC water pipe standards, and instructions may vary depending on the site. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) has high chemical resistance but low heat resistance; however, it is inexpensive as a material and can be both glued and welded, making it widely used for safety covers and processed building pipe materials. Using a welding machine (Fuji Impulse), we weld materials such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PP (polypropylene), and PE (polyethylene) by applying heat and melting the welding rod. We can produce even "small lots," starting from just one piece. We can also accommodate repeat orders from single items. While we can accept mass-produced items (those with large quantities) that result in a higher total amount, we also handle small lots (those with fewer quantities) that are often difficult to accept elsewhere.
