To investigate the effects of advertising that appeals to the sense of smell, we conducted a field experiment comparing verbal customer service with customer evaluations in a scented environment. We sold shower gels with lemon and orange scents, each placed on sheets that emitted yellow and orange fragrances. As a result, customers showed a more favorable response to the product when influenced by scent compared to verbal customer service.
