[Improvement Case] Consolidated 26 varieties into 3 types! Roll products suspended packaging

Cumulative achievement of 15,000 sets. Consolidated 26 types into 3! Successful packaging design case at Nitto Denko. [*Awarded the Logistics Award in 2017]

The "Suspended Packaging for Film Roll Products" is a successful case of packaging design for Nitto Denko, which won the Logistics Award in 2017. By reducing the types of packaging materials and accommodating a variety of products, we were able to cover 26 different products with just three types of packaging materials! 【Before Improvement, We Faced These Issues】 ■ Before implementation, different packaging materials were used for each product. ■ The use of multiple types of packaging materials resulted in bulky storage space. ■ Some packaging materials were not made of cardboard, which was harmful to the environment. *Please refer to the PDF available for download for details on the effects and benefits after improvement.

[Improvement Case] Reduction of air freight and logistics costs (Complete conversion of wooden boxes to cardboard)

Introducing a case study on how the use of reinforced cardboard "Navi Ace" and reinforced cardboard pallets "Navi Palette" reduced air freight and logistics costs!

Improvement proposal for wooden packaging using the specially reinforced cardboard "Naviace"! Reduce air freight costs with a 65% reduction in packaging weight! Additionally: - Improved storage efficiency - No need for nailing - Increased shipping quantities in sea containers - Stable supply 【What is Naviace?】 Naviace is a lightweight and strong reinforced cardboard. Generally, logistics costs are said to be: - Packaging costs 10% - Packing work, storage, and management costs 30% - Transportation costs 60% By reducing "logistics costs" and "packing work, storage, and management costs" rather than simply lowering packaging costs, users can experience many benefits. Furthermore, reducing transportation costs and labor hours contributes to CO2 reduction and improvement of labor conditions, supporting corporate sustainability and SDGs. ★★ For more detailed information, please download the materials below ★★ 【Main Improvement Contents】 ■ Complete cardboard conversion from other materials like wooden boxes ■ Improvement of environmental issues (carbon neutrality, decarbonization) ■ Reduction of cubic meters (improvement of logistics transportation and storage efficiency) ■ Anyone can pack and unpack (production efficiency improvement, waste reduction) ■ Enhancement of corporate image (ESG investment measures, CSR measures)

[Reference Material] What is reinforced cardboard "Naviace"?

I summarized the features of the reinforced cardboard "Naviace" (its differences from other cardboard) using a positioning map, aiming to make it as "easy to understand" as possible.

What is the reinforced cardboard "Naviace"? In discussions with customers, we received feedback such as, "If I had known, I would have understood its advantages, but at first, I couldn't tell what was different from other cardboard." Indeed, the appearance of Naviace is the same as other cardboard, making it difficult to understand (and convey) what is good about it and what benefits it offers. Therefore, we created materials using analytical methods like positioning maps to communicate in a way that is "as easy to understand as possible." Specifically, we focused on: - Heavy - Complex - Seeking quality and aesthetic appeal, among others ★★ For more details, please download the materials below ★★ [Main Improvement Proposals for Reinforced Cardboard "Naviace"] ■ Environmental issue improvements (SDGs, carbon neutrality, Scope 3, decarbonization CO2 reduction, resolution of wood shock, etc.) ■ Reduction of cubic meters (improvements in logistics transportation, storage efficiency, resolution of export container shortages) ■ Anyone can pack and unpack (improvements in work efficiency, productivity, waste reduction, etc.) ■ Enhancement of corporate image (ESG investment measures, CSR measures, response to Scope 3)

We will lead to a total reduction in logistics costs through carbon neutrality.

The increase in costs is a hurdle for carbon neutrality. Achieve both carbon neutrality and a reduction in total logistics costs with reinforced cardboard "Naviace"!

"When addressing environmental issues and the SDGs, it often results in increased costs." By using reinforced cardboard "Naviace," it is possible to achieve both decarbonization and cost reduction. 【Environmental characteristics of Naviace and the concept of cost reduction】 ◆ Compared to wood, plastic, and metal, it emits less CO2 from production to disposal (recycling). ◆ The material is lightweight, which reduces CO2 emissions during transportation. ◆ Its easy design and processing allow for improved logistics efficiency through volume reduction, leading to a decrease in CO2 emissions. → Thus, it is an environmentally friendly material due to its material characteristics. In other words... ★ The lightweight nature of the material directly leads to cost reduction as a material. ★ The ability to improve logistics efficiency results in reduced shipping costs and packaging labor costs. For these reasons, "carbon neutrality and total logistics cost reduction can be achieved." ↓ If you would like to know more details, please download the materials below ↓

How can we promote carbon neutrality and the SDGs in logistics engineering?

We contribute to reducing CO2 emissions through lightweight alternatives to packaging materials using reinforced cardboard "Naviace" and total logistics efficiency achieved through packaging design.

Our company has a wealth of experience in environmental proposals. 【Our Approach to Promoting Carbon Neutrality】 1. Use materials with low life cycle CO2 emissions (LCA) for packaging. 2. Reduce the mass of packaging. 3. Minimize the volume of packaging. 【Environmental Characteristics of Naviace】 ◆ Compared to wood, plastic, and metal, it emits less CO2 from production to disposal (recycling). ◆ The material is lightweight, resulting in lower CO2 emissions during transportation. ◆ Easy to design and process, which can improve logistics efficiency through volume reduction, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. → Thus, it can be said that it is an environmentally friendly material due to its material characteristics. 【The Relationship Between Carbon Neutrality and Total Logistics Cost Reduction】 Naviace's efforts to reduce environmental impact can also lead to cost reductions. ★ Reducing material weight directly contributes to lower material costs. ★ Improving logistics efficiency leads to reductions in shipping costs and packaging labor costs. → For these reasons, "carbon neutrality can achieve total logistics cost reduction"!! If you would like to know more details, we would appreciate it if you could download the materials.

Proposal for improving labor conditions with packaging materials (SDGs labor environment improvement) *Elimination of nail driving

Reducing the labor burden on elderly silver workers through cardboard conversion. No need for nails or bolts, and with lightweight packaging, anyone, including women, can handle packing! Towards a company that is friendly to workers.

This is an improvement case from a company that had been relying on elderly silver workers for packaging tasks. Currently, silver workers were assembling wooden pallets (wooden geta) using purchased lumber. We received feedback that: - Securing personnel is difficult. - Considering environmental impact, we prefer not to use wood as much as possible. Based on this feedback, we began the design process. **Reasons for not transitioning to cardboard** It seems that there had been a top-down goal to eliminate wood for some time, but they had not progressed to an all-cardboard solution. - Currently, products were fixed to the wooden geta with bolts. Since cardboard cannot be secured with bolts, they hesitated to make the switch. - They could not find a cardboard manufacturer that could meet these requirements. **Improvements made** - No need for nails or bolts. - Lightweight packaging. - Elimination of label application (printing directly on the packaging). ↓ ↓ - Anyone can package the products. - Simplified disposal for end-users (from industrial waste to recycled paper). - Reduced air freight costs. By simply replacing wood with cardboard, various benefits arise! ↓↓ For more details, please download the materials below and feel free to contact us. ↓↓
