【Case Study】Shima House

Prepare to allocate materials appropriately! Select clean materials without insect damage on the back side of the wood.

We would like to introduce a case where our timber was supplied to "Shima no Ie," designed and constructed by Hagiwara Construction Co., Ltd. Since there were many structural materials that would be exposed, we had detailed discussions about how many surfaces would be visible and how far the lengths would be visible, preparing to ensure that the materials were appropriately allocated. For the exterior wall materials, square boards were used in a lapped manner. Due to the nature of wood's tendency to "warp," we intentionally used the back side of the wood as the surface to prevent the overlapping boards from "lifting up." We selected clean materials without defects such as insect damage for the back side. [Overview] ■ Design: Hagiwara Construction Co., Ltd. / Tsukuru Kenkyusho, First-Class Architect Office ■ Construction: Hagiwara Construction Co., Ltd. ■ Supplied Timber: Structural materials, end materials, finishing materials, stair materials, floorboards, ceiling and wall boards, exterior wall materials, wooden fences *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Building a House with Science Wood: Structure

Seismic performance evolved with a hybrid structure of "frame x panel."

At Science Wood, we have increased strength and enhanced seismic performance potential by combining traditional frame construction, which assembles wooden frames to support buildings, with the monocoque method, which supports buildings with panels. The framework, including columns, beams, and bracing, works in unison with surfaces such as walls and floors to support the building. This allows the building to evenly distribute and dissipate significant forces during earthquakes and typhoons, creating a structure that is less prone to deformation.
