**Lecture Overview** In Japan, parks have primarily been developed and managed by local governments based on the Urban Park Law since the post-war period. However, since the 2017 legal reforms and deregulation, there has been a proactive introduction of public-private partnerships and private investments (Park-PFI), accelerating private sector involvement. As a result, many parks that were once dark and overgrown with weeds and trees have transformed into bright grassy open spaces and stylish cafes for child-rearing generations to enjoy, but new challenges have also emerged.
