【Lecture Overview】 The industrial property rights system has been updated alongside technological advancements as an infrastructure for innovation. Recently, the acceleration of digital transformation (DX) across society and the development of generative AI technologies have significantly changed the environment for creative activities. To continue to appropriately protect intellectual creative activities that bring about innovation, it is necessary to anticipate further technological advancements and establish an industrial property rights system suitable for the AI/DX era, as well as implement institutional measures regarding industrial property rights procedures that support the acquisition and utilization of industrial property rights in this new era. In light of this situation, the Japan Patent Office has been advancing discussions in an expert committee since last year.
