basic information
Ecology of Longhorn Beetles 1. Life of the Larvae The larvae of longhorn beetles, also known as "woodborers," damage the inside of trees and tunnel through them. They grow inside the wood over a period of 1 to 3 years, and once fully developed, they emerge to the surface of the ground or the tree to pupate. 2. Activity of the Adults Many species are active in the summer (June to September) and fly around during the day. Many species gather around flowers and play a role in pollination. 3. Natural Enemies Birds (such as great tits and crows) Parasitoid wasps (which lay eggs in longhorn beetle larvae) Predators such as spiders and mantises
