Protect lives, buildings, and elevators from earthquakes! Seismic isolation device for direct seismic action countermeasures.
We would like to introduce the "3D-Damping Device" handled by Tanaka Seismic Structural Research Institute Co., Ltd. Thanks to 3D-damping technology, this device functions as a damping system integrated with the entire building, significantly reducing vibrations from all directions—vertical, horizontal, and diagonal—during earthquakes directly beneath the structure. Our company handles everything from manufacturing and installation to management of the device. It can be installed on the building's rooftop, floors, or foundation in as little as three days while residents remain in the building. 【Benefits】 ■ Installation costs are about 1/10 of those of other companies' damping devices ■ Our company conducts everything from manufacturing and installation to management ■ Can be installed on the building's rooftop, floors, or foundation in as little as three days while residents remain in the building ■ Compact and lightweight, significantly reducing vibrations from earthquakes directly beneath the metropolitan area *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

<Demonstration of the Effect of Installing 3D Vibration Control Devices on Reducing Ground Motion during Directly Beneath Earthquakes> After installing six 3D vibration control devices in the condominium, the shaking during directly beneath earthquakes was reduced, protecting lives and preventing the elevators from stopping. This building is a 14-story reinforced concrete structure located in Shinagawa, Tokyo, built 20 years ago.

<Installation Record of 3D Vibration Control Devices> This is the installation record of 3D vibration control devices. Depending on the condition of the building where they are installed, there are types that can be installed on the roof, on the floor, or in the underground foundation, among others. Regardless of the type, they can effectively reduce the shaking caused by seismic activity directly beneath.

<Installation Method for 3D Vibration Control Device> This document explains the procedure for transporting and installing the 3D vibration control device. This device is very compact and lightweight compared to general equipment. Additionally, it is designed for installation in various locations, allowing the device to be disassembled into lightweight parts for transportation. The parts weigh a maximum of about 50 kilograms. This makes it possible to install in narrow spaces or on rooftops. First, the device is disassembled into parts and loaded onto a small truck for transport to the site. Next, three to four people carry the parts to the protected elevator. The parts are loaded into the elevator and transported to the installation floor one by one. At the installation floor, anchor bolts are placed at the installation position of the device, and the gap between the waterproof layer and the anchors is completely sealed to prevent leaks. After that, waterproof treatment of the installation surface is performed, and the device is installed. If installing on the roof of the elevator machine room, the parts are hoisted up with ropes. The total number of days required for the installation is approximately two to three days.

<Owner Testimony on the Effect of Installing 3D Vibration Control Devices in Reducing Ground Motion from Directly Beneath Earthquakes in a Condominium> In this case, the building where the elevator did not stop met the new seismic standards and had six 3D vibration control devices installed as a measure against directly beneath earthquakes. Normally, elevators stop during tremors of intensity 4. The recent earthquake was of intensity 4, and the building swayed at just below intensity 5, but we received testimony from the building owner that the elevator did not stop and that they did not feel the strong shaking characteristic of directly beneath earthquakes. This result demonstrated that the 3D vibration control devices reduced the shaking from the earthquake.
-
<Demonstration of the Effect of Reducing Ground Motion from Directly Below Earthquakes by Installing 3D Vibration Control Devices in a Large Complex Facility> In 2013, our company undertook seismic reinforcement design assessment and construction management for a large complex facility completed in 1975, which is 49 years old, an 8-story reinforced concrete structure with a total area of 6,800 square meters. We carried out seismic reinforcement work and installed five of the first 3D vibration control devices.
-
<Testimony on the Shake Reduction Effect from the Owner of a Large Complex Facility during a Directly Below Earthquake> On January 28, 2024, during a magnitude 4 earthquake, we received a report from the building owner that the vibrations during the earthquake were reduced, the duration of the shaking was shortened, and that two elevators did not stop.
-
<Obtained a safety plate regarding seismic reinforcement work from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism> As a result of conducting large-scale seismic reinforcement work at this large complex facility, covering 45 locations, we have been certified by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as having a safe, retrofitted building, and we have obtained a safety plate. Only 52 buildings nationwide have been able to obtain this safety plate.

<3D Vibration Control Device Full-Scale Wooden Vibration Experiment> 【Experimental video available on the website】 The total weight of this building is 1 ton, but the device weighs only 20 kg, making it lightweight. In an experiment where this device was stopped, the upper part of the building shook violently and came off the guide rails, causing the experiment to be interrupted. However, when the 3D vibration control device was operated, it integrated with the building to reduce the shaking and maintain a stable condition.
-
<3D Vibration Control Device Vertical Shake - Strong Vibration Experiment> 【Experiment video available on the website】 This experiment reproduced shaking more than twice the intensity of a seismic level 7. The left screen shows the device stopped, while the right screen shows the device in operation. In the left screen, where the device is stopped, the shaking table is violently shaking, creating a dangerous situation, but in the right screen, where the device is operating, the shaking is significantly reduced, and the entire system comes to a standstill. This is because the 3D vibration control device integrated with the entire testing machine to reduce vibrations. With this new technology, even large buildings can use this small and lightweight device to reduce earthquake shaking.
