It can measure the thickness of paint films on metals that adhere to magnets (such as steel, nickel, and cobalt) as well as on metals that do not adhere to magnets (such as gold, silver, copper, aluminum, chromium, and titanium). If the substrate is a diamagnetic material—such as wood, plastic, acrylic, or glass—measurements cannot be taken.
