Japan's electricity system has undergone several reforms aimed at ensuring stable electricity supply, controlling electricity prices, and expanding options for consumers and business opportunities for operators, culminating in the full liberalization of retail in 2015. During this time, the environment surrounding Japan's electricity business has changed significantly due to the expansion of renewable energy towards carbon neutrality, the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear accident, and the global surge in fuel prices and geopolitical risks. New electricity providers are being compelled to rethink their business models.
