Specific examples, policy proposals, and challenges in Hakodate City and Goto City: Business opportunities in promoting blue carbon and the greening/blueing of fishing villages.
Our company will hold a seminar titled "Creation of 'UMIGYO' through the Revitalization of Fishing Ports." The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, through its Ocean Policy Research Institute, has been promoting blue economy initiatives in collaboration with the Liberal Democratic Party, the Fisheries Agency, and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, aiming to promote "UMIGYO," a blue economy originating from fishing villages, which are characteristic landscapes of Japan, through awareness-raising and policy research. In this seminar, we will provide detailed explanations on regional economic circulation analysis to measure the economic ripple effects and policy impacts of UMIGYO, including specific case studies from Hakodate City and Goto City, as well as policy proposals and challenges. Additionally, we will discuss recent topics such as the greening and blueing of blue carbon and related industries as new developments in UMIGYO.
