Passivation treatment that brings out the inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel.
The passive film on the surface of manufactured stainless steel products is in an incomplete state due to various causes that occur during the processing. This condition is prone to the destruction of the passive film, which can lead to rust formation. Passivation treatment is a surface treatment that restores this incomplete passive film to its original state and further strengthens it to a chromium-rich condition, with the aim of improving corrosion resistance (to prevent rust). 【Features of Passivation Treatment】 ◆ No change in appearance ◆ No change in dimensions ◆ No change in hardness ◆ Compatible with various stainless steel materials ◇◇ Please feel free to contact us for more details ◇◇

basic information
The most important corrosion resistance varies depending on the material and processing history. It is necessary to confirm whether passivation treatment is effective for the usage environment. Passivation treatment can be performed alone, but when addressing issues (such as difficulty in removing discoloration or existing rust) or upgrading (to further enhance corrosion resistance or achieve a desired shine), it is combined with processes like pickling or electro-polishing. We can propose the optimal treatment, so please feel free to consult with us. 【Applicable Materials】 - General austenitic stainless steels such as SUS304, SUS316, SUS201, SUS301, etc. - General ferritic stainless steels such as SUS430, SUS405, SUS429, etc. - General martensitic stainless steels such as SUS420, SUS440, etc.* - General duplex stainless steels such as SUS329, etc. - General precipitation-hardening stainless steels such as SUS630, etc.* *Note: Sufficient corrosion resistance may not be achieved depending on the heat treatment conditions. ◇◇ Please feel free to contact us for more details ◇◇

【Surface Treatment Example】 Passivation Treatment of Sanitary Piping Both the inner and outer surfaces are finished to a mirror polish, but depending on the application, there are cases where a passivation treatment is performed as a final finish to achieve higher corrosion resistance. [Specifications] Material: SUS316L Size: Approximately 250×80 (maximum width) [Treatment Purpose] Even with SUS316L material, the treatment is done to ensure corrosion resistance with extra care. [Results] The passivation treatment has the characteristic of "no change in appearance after treatment," allowing for an increase in corrosion resistance without compromising the mirror-finished surface.

[Surface Treatment Example] Acid Pickling + Passivation Treatment of Industrial Punching Baskets This is a case study of acid pickling and passivation treatment applied to punching containers used in industrial equipment. [Specifications] Material: SUS304 Size: Approximately φ550×400H Weight: Approximately 15kg [Treatment Purpose] - If welding scale remains, rust is likely to occur from that area, and there may be dirt due to processing. - Removal of welding scale - Removal of dirt and improvement of appearance through acid pickling [Results] By performing acid pickling and passivation treatment, the oxidized scale at the welding points was removed, reducing the risk of corrosion and rust formation. The appearance has also regained a clean metallic look typical of stainless steel. Our company achieves an excellent finish in appearance through post-treatment designed to minimize chemical residues and expertise in acid pickling.

[Surface Treatment Case] Passivation Treatment of Antenna Stays Used in Coastal Areas The antenna stay in the photo had the problem of "rust appearing from gaps and welds, not lasting long, and needing frequent replacements. There are stains present, which might be a concern." Therefore, our company considered that while the stains are indeed a problem, other corrosion-resistant treatments are necessary to ensure a longer lifespan. We proposed removing the stains through re-acid pickling, followed by electropolishing and passivation treatment. First, we cleaned the stains and scale residues with re-acid pickling, and then performed electropolishing. Finally, we conducted the passivation treatment. As a result, the finish was free of stains and scale residues, and it is reported that even when the time comes for what would normally be a rusting and replacement period, it remains solid without rusting.
Company information
Our company has been engaged in surface treatment technology for over 60 years, incorporating the philosophies of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 into our processes, ranging from metal houseware products to semiconductor manufacturing equipment components. Through thorough quality control and technological development, we provide surface treatment processes that meet the demands of the times. Our electrolytic composite polishing has received high praise, including a letter of appreciation for contributing to the completion of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), a high-intensity proton accelerator facility constructed jointly by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). We perform various surface treatments that maximize the advantages of different metal materials, including electrolytic polishing, electrolytic composite polishing, coloration of stainless steel and titanium, and pickling. In recent years, we have also been involved in surface treatment processing for materials such as magnesium, aluminum, and titanium. Leveraging the expertise in surface treatment developed in the Niigata Prefecture Tsubame-Sanjo region, which is well-known for metal processing, we are here to assist you in solving your problems.
