We received a request for repair of a polyester mirror finish tabletop from a woodworking and painting company in the same industry.
Initially, the consultation was to "strip the existing coating and repaint," but the person in charge checked the condition of the coating and determined that "stripping and repainting is unnecessary; it can be made beautiful with just repairs for the dents and re-polishing."

Piax has been dedicated to woodworking finishes for 60 years, with a proven track record of painting over 80 types of wood and a vast accumulation of know-how. Wood has its own characteristics, such as deep vessels, high resin content, and oiliness, depending on the species. While manuals work for artificial materials (like resin and metal), achieving a beautiful finish on wood requires painting methods and processes tailored to each species. Additionally, the amount of moisture contained in the wood affects the penetration of the paint and the quality of the finish, significantly impacting the durability of the coating. Taking into account our clients' requests, we strive daily to refine our techniques to provide the highest quality finishes both aesthetically and functionally. Please feel free to contact us for consultations or estimates regarding painting.

<Before repair top panel> There are numerous scratches, and it is overall cloudy and white. There are also many deep scratches.

There are many scratches, and numerous areas where the paint film is cracked and has turned white can be observed.

Polishing with a level sander After the repair work for dents, we will introduce how it becomes beautiful with just polishing. First, we polish the entire surface with a level sander. The level sander can polish the surface pressed by an air cylinder pad. While fine adjustments are essential, it is a very efficient machine when mastered.
-
Polishing with a belt sander Next is polishing with a belt sander. We will visually check and remove deep scratches that could not be eliminated with the level sander.
-
This is the state after polishing with a level sander. It is cloudy since it hasn't been polished yet, but you can see that dents and scratches have been cleaned up. I often see videos where hand sanders are used for polishing, but to grind the hard coating of polyester resin over a wide area and evenly, large machinery is indeed an essential presence.
-
Polishing work with a three-head automatic buffing system. Using a high-speed rotating three-head buff, the polishing is done in multiple passes to ensure an even finish. The speed and beautiful results are incomparable to those achieved with a small handheld buffer.
-
Polishing work with a hand buffer. About 90% is finished with an automatic buffer, and the remaining 10% is finished with a hand buffer.
-
Polishing work with a sponge buffer. The final polishing is done, and it's complete.
