The "Act on the Protection of Personal Information," which came into effect in April 2005, mandates the proper handling of information that can identify specific individuals. Images, videos, and audio captured by surveillance camera systems are highly likely to contain personal information as defined above, and careless installation or operation of cameras could not only lead to a loss of social trust but also result in economic costs due to compensation claims.
