The frame, which is welded together at only three points using four stainless steel pipes, features a simple structure where the molded plywood for the back and seat is bolted in place with rubber mounts in between. Instead of molding the back and seat as a single piece, it is intentionally designed as two separate parts to allow the rubber mounts to effectively absorb loads and impacts. The first product was commercialized by Evans Products Company, where Charles Eames was employed at the time. Due to the organic shape of the curves in the back and seat, it has been nicknamed "the potato chip chair." It is not an exaggeration to say that the achievements of Charles and Ray Eames began with the material of molded plywood, and the development of products that could be produced cheaply and in large quantities was the concept behind it. The Eames philosophy, as a designer's mission, was to provide "useful things" to as many people as possible; one wonders if this philosophy is still carried on in modern times. *The product is a reproduction imported and sold by E-comfort.
