Vibration Control Device TMD [Example] Vibration Control Measures for Horizontal Vibration of the Pencil Building
Reduce the vibration acceleration level at the building's natural frequency to 1/2 or less! Examples of measures against perceptible vibrations caused by wind.
We will introduce a case study of vibration control measures for the Pencil Building's horizontal vibrations. In a newly constructed office building, perceptible vibrations due to wind sway were occurring, and as a countermeasure, a TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) was installed on the roof to reduce the building's lateral sway. By installing the TMD, the vibration acceleration levels at the building's natural frequency were reduced by more than 6 dB (to less than half) in both the X and Y directions. Additionally, the building's damping ratio improved from 1% to 12%, significantly shortening the time until the vibrations converged. [Case Summary] ■ Key Point of the Measure: Installation of multiple small TMDs as a countermeasure ■ Measure: Installation of TMDs on the roof ■ Effect: Reduction of vibration acceleration levels at the building's natural frequency to less than half *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
