What is SUS316L? SUS316L is a high-grade material that contains more nickel than the commonly used stainless steel SUS304, and its corrosion resistance is further enhanced by the addition of molybdenum. Stainless steel prevents rust from progressing internally by forming a passive film on its surface; however, in environments that use seawater or saltwater, some of this film may be damaged. In this regard, SUS316L has the characteristic that the added molybdenum has the ability to repair the damaged passive film, making it more corrosion-resistant than SUS304 in chloride environments.
