What is a pandemic?

A pandemic refers to a situation where an infectious disease spreads across multiple countries and continents, occurring simultaneously. Infectious diseases progress through stages before reaching a pandemic, starting with what is called an "outbreak," which refers to a situation where the number of cases of an infectious disease increases in a specific area or group beyond what is normally expected. When the infectious disease expands to a wider region than the outbreak, it is referred to as an "epidemic," and the progression from epidemic leads to a pandemic. In other words, if an outbreak does not occur, a pandemic cannot happen. This outbreak often occurs indoors, similar to clusters, and it is essential to implement indoor infection control measures to prevent outbreaks.
