Quantitative surveys of ground loosening and cavities around small cross-section tunnels have become possible.
**Necessity and Background** - In waterway tunnels that have been constructed for some time, cavities may form behind the lining due to water leakage. These cavities can cause loosening in the consolidated ground, change the earth pressure acting on the lining, and potentially lead to the destruction of the lining. - Therefore, it is necessary to quantitatively investigate the cavities behind the lining in tunnels that have been in existence for a long time. **Product Overview** - Investigations can be conducted from inside small cross-section tunnels. - The penetration rate, thrust, and rod rotation speed of rotary percussion drills and rotary boring machines within the tunnel are measured and recorded, allowing for a quantitative investigation of previously unknown small cavities and the loosening condition of the ground. *Please refer to the leaflet for more information.* **Features** - Collection of detailed N-value data of the ground - N-values can be obtained every 1 cm (compared to 1 m in general geological surveys). - Quick investigation - No need for temporary facilities and no use of core tubes, allowing for a rapid survey. - All-direction investigation - Drilling can be conducted in all directions from inside the tunnel. - Investigation in small-diameter tunnels - Investigations can be conducted in tunnels with a diameter of 2 meters or more. - Investigations from the ground surface are also possible. - Target geology - All types of geology. *For more details, please refer to the technical documentation or contact us.*

Applications/Examples of results
● We have been widely adopted for investigations such as the backfill survey of waterway tunnels at hydropower plants operated by electric companies. ● We are also being utilized for surface investigations (such as the investigation of abandoned horizontal tunnels and voids at factory sites). *For more details, please refer to the technical documentation.
Company information
Tosetsu Civil Engineering Consultant Co., Ltd. has been engaged in the maintenance and management of facilities for hydroelectric power generation, such as dams, and civil engineering structures for thermal and nuclear power generation, including intake and discharge channels, through investigations, surveys, measurements, analyses, and diagnostics. Additionally, we have developed systems that capture images of tunnel walls using vehicles equipped with digital cameras while driving through tunnels, as well as systems that efficiently inspect marine structures from ships while controlling the ship's motion.
